Learning to Rest When You’re Unwell

Published on 6 April 2026 at 17:15

There was a time I would have tried to push through if I felt unwell, I’d haul myself out of bed, keep going, tick off tasks, convince myself I couldn’t “waste the day.” Therapy and breathwork have taught me something different.
Now, when I'm unwell or need rest, I stay in bed, I rest, I breath and I let myself recover. There’s no shame in this, in fact it’s a form of care. I’ve learned that ignoring these signals only prolongs illness andexhaustion
Self-care isn’t always about action, it’s about pausing. Sometimes it’s simply giving yourself permission to be still, to recover, to be gentle with your body. That pause, It’s not weakness,it’s wisdom.
Resting until you feel able to get up again isn’t laziness—it’s the first step towards truly showing up for yourself.
